How It All Began
It all begins with an idea, right. But this was not just an idea. God had planned for this before anyone knew. COVID-19 global pandemic was traumatic for many. But God always makes a way to work things out for the good of those that love Him and are called. I was unhappy during COVID feeling trapped. But scuba diving post COVID made it all a distant dream. It seemed like the underwater world showed me how large the world truly is because us humans have barely scratched the surface. The freedom you feel when you’re diving is like no other, and just seeing all of the underwater world in it’s marvelous beauty makes you feel like you are in a fairytale.
“Why don’t you teach,” Luke of Superior Dive Sosua asks fall of 2020. I was thinking, I’m just doing this for fun! Well, it planted an idea. I mean it was mostly a new idea. I’ve always wanted to be involved in starting a summer science camp for minority and underserved youth like the ones I had attended as a kid. But ocean science was never the original plan. I mean, I had just started diving in 2019 with Roger’s Scuba Shack. And really I just forced myself to dive since I was in Barbados for a birthday celebration.
Little did I know that God had a plan that for what I know now, started back in 2009!!! We’ll get to that later. May 2021, Carlisle Bay, Barbados…le sigh. The most beautiful beach with amazing people and good food nearby, AAAAND scuba diving with rays and turtles and wrecks that you can see just with a snorkel from the shore!!!! This is where Sea Scope Inc began to be formed.
While finishing my Divemaster, Sea Scope Inc began on a laptop. Excited, I returned to Indy and immediately Sea Scope Inc was incorporated that following month. And I’ve been running with God ever since to make the greatest impact I can! TODAY, marks 2 years and 2 months of running programs. We now have served 429 Marion County Youth ages 7-24 years old, made 28 scuba divers in Florida Keys, 5 Snorkelers, taken 251 Eco-Warriors at the Indianapolis Zoo’s Ocean’s Exhibit and Dolphin, taught 297 youth skills to be safe in and around water, and TODAY now have trained 5 certified Lifeguards! God truly favors Sea Scope Inc and its youth!
